What Are Routine Templates?
TradingPlan includes a library of example routines — pre-built frameworks you can use as a starting point. Each template is based on a common trading session type and contains a practical set of steps used by real traders.
Templates are a starting point, not a finished product. After choosing one, edit the steps to match how you actually trade.
How to Use a Template
- Go to Trade Plan → Routines
- Scroll to the Example Routines section
- Tap a template to see its full contents
- Tap Use This Template to create a copy in your routines
The template becomes your routine — fully editable. The original template remains available in case you want to reference it again.
Available Templates
Pre-Market Prep
A structured preparation routine for traders who want to start every session with proper context. Covers:
- Economic calendar review and event flagging
- Chart analysis — marking key levels, noting trend direction
- Reviewing any overnight or pre-market moves
- Mindset and readiness check
- Account and margin review
Best for: Day traders and swing traders who trade during specific sessions.
Pre-Trade Checklist
A short, sharp routine to run immediately before entering any trade. Distinct from the strategy flow — this checks general readiness rather than the specific trade criteria. Covers:
- Confirming no high-impact news in the next 30 minutes
- Checking the spread is acceptable
- Confirming risk settings are correct for today
- A final mindset check — "am I in the right state to execute this trade?"
Best for: All traders as a final gate before committing capital.
Post-Session Review
A reflection routine for after the session closes. Covers:
- Trades taken: were they on-plan?
- Trades missed: were they setups I should have taken?
- Emotional state during the session — any moments of impulse or hesitation?
- Key observations logged to Business Notes
- One thing to improve tomorrow
Best for: All traders who want to build self-awareness and improve over time.
Morning Focus Routine
A mindset-first routine for traders who want to arrive at the market mentally prepared. Lighter on market analysis, heavier on psychological preparation. Covers:
- Reviewing the Why statement
- Reading mindset notes
- A brief focus exercise or intention-setting prompt
- Confirming: "Am I ready to trade my plan today?"
Best for: Traders who struggle with discipline or emotional trading and want to build psychological structure into their day.
End-of-Week Review
A longer weekly retrospective. Covers:
- Week's performance summary (self-assessed)
- Plan adherence review — did I follow my rules?
- Strategy performance notes — which setups worked and which didn't?
- Risk review — did I stay within my drawdown limits?
- Next week preparation — key events, themes, any plan updates needed
Best for: All traders as part of a weekly business review habit.
Building Your Own From Scratch
If none of the templates feel right, create a blank routine and build from scratch. See Creating a Trading Routine for a full guide.
