The Mac Experience

TradingPlan on Mac is a full native Mac app — not an iPhone app running in a window. It uses the full Mac layout with a sidebar, keyboard shortcuts, and a multi-column display that takes advantage of the larger screen.

If you do your serious plan-building work on a Mac (writing rules, refining your philosophy, editing risk management), the Mac version is significantly more comfortable than doing it on iPhone.

Sidebar Navigation

On Mac, the five main sections (Dashboard, Trade Plan, Plan Builder, Strategies, Profile) appear in the left sidebar. Below the main navigation:

  • My Strategies — strategies you've included in your plan, pinned for quick access
  • My Routines — active routines, also pinned

Clicking a pinned strategy opens it directly without navigating to the Strategies tab.

At the very bottom of the sidebar, a View Trading Plan button opens your full plan as a formatted document.

Keyboard Shortcuts

ShortcutAction
⌘NCreate a new strategy (when in the Strategies view)
⌘WClose the current window/sheet
⌘,Open Preferences (if applicable)

Wide Layout — Multi-Column Display

On Mac (and large iPad), sections like the Dashboard, Trade Plan, and strategy editor use a multi-column grid layout. Content flows left-to-right in columns rather than top-to-bottom in a single scroll. This means:

  • You can see more content at once without scrolling
  • Strategy sections and plan sections lay out side-by-side
  • Editing feels more spacious and less cramped

View Trading Plan

The View Trading Plan button at the bottom of the sidebar opens a formatted, printable view of your entire trading plan in one document — all sections, all rules, all philosophy choices, risk management, and notes.

This is particularly useful for:

  • Reviewing your complete plan as a whole
  • Sharing it (export/print)
  • Printing a physical copy to keep at your trading desk

Spotlight Integration

TradingPlan registers your strategies and routines with macOS Spotlight. Type a strategy name in Spotlight (⌘Space) and TradingPlan results will appear — tap/click to open that strategy directly.

Handoff

If you've been working in TradingPlan on iPhone or iPad, the Handoff icon will appear in the Mac Dock when you're near your Mac. Click it to continue in the same context on Mac. Works the other way too — Mac to iPhone.

Window Management

On Mac, TradingPlan supports standard macOS window management — you can resize the window, use it in Split View alongside your trading platform, or run it in a separate Space.

A common setup: TradingPlan in the left half of the screen, your trading platform in the right half. Reference your strategy rules and risk settings without switching apps.

Updates

TradingPlan on Mac updates through the Mac App Store — the same way as iPhone via the App Store. Enable automatic updates in System Settings → App Store to always have the latest version.
